Chelating Agent
DESCRIPTION
Organic compound that coordinate metal ions into circular structures (chelate circles) are called chelating reagents. Most chelating reagents include oxygen, nitrogen, or sulfur atoms in their molecules. Chelate structures with five or six member rings form the most stable chelate circle. SMLZ-UCX has many coordinated atoms, forms a very stable chelate.
APPLICATIONS AND ADVANTAGES
SMLZ-UCX can be added to an acid to stabilize iron. The injected acid dissolves iron from rust, millscale, iron scales or iron-containing mineral in the formation. Iron can exist as ferric or ferrous iron. If the iron is not controlled, it will precipitate insoluble product such as ferric hydroxide or in sour environments will precipitate ferrous sulfide, which will damage the formation. SMLZ-UCX associate with ferric or ferrous iron to form soluble complexes.
